Fredrik Lerneryd, Jhpiego | | Building Back Immunity for the World's Children Increasing routine immunization through high-quality, equitable, accessible primary health care is one of the most effective ways to increase child survival worldwide. However, 67 million children have missed out on essential immunization since 2019, bringing us back down to vaccination coverage levels unseen since 2008. Further, 2021 marked the largest decline in childhood vaccinations in approximately 30 years, according to our partners at WHO and UNICEF. This World Immunization Week presents an opportunity to learn and take action. As we collectively set our sights on achieving the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, we recognize that strengthening routine immunization systems to increase survival of women and children is critical to achieve the objectives set in USAID's new Preventing Child and Maternal Deaths: A Framework for Action in a Changing World, 2023-2030. By working alongside local partners and mobilizing key stakeholders around global commitments, including Immunization Agenda 2030 and Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, we can create a world where no one is left behind and everyone fully benefits from vaccines to improve their health and well-being. | | | | Now, we see some of humanity's worst killers back at large…But today's leaders have the power to get this progress back on track. - USAID Administrator Samantha Power
